Delivery changes after dispatch: confirm available USPS options
Check the parcel’s current status and the official eligibility process before requesting a delivery change, then retain the requested and confirmed outcomes separately.

For an address change, identify the order, active label and current physical stage. If the parcel is still at the packing team, ask the seller to approve a revised instruction before release. If it has left, a store-address edit cannot be assumed to change the carrier label.
USPS Package Intercept has a specific eligibility process and does not guarantee successful interception. Its published route is for the sender or authorised representative. Check the actual parcel through the official process before promising redirection.
Describe the requested change accurately
Keep the original label address, requested destination and reason in the record. Review the current carrier event and who is authorised to make the request. A recipient delivery instruction and a sender’s intercept request can have different purposes and conditions.
| Check | Record or next action |
|---|---|
| Original parcel | Active tracking number and label destination. |
| Requested change | New instruction, reason and person requesting it. |
| Eligibility review | Official process and result for this parcel. |
| Outcome | Request confirmation and later actual carrier events. |
Use the official option available for that parcel
Open the relevant USPS tool independently and read its current conditions, charges and restrictions. If the available process does not support the desired action, tell the seller or recipient that limitation. Do not substitute an unrelated form or promise that a support message changes the address.
Keep the request reference and approved charges where applicable. For a package moving with an upstream partner, ask the shipment owner which party can still act on the physical parcel before assuming a USPS option applies at that stage.
Confirm the result before changing the customer message
Save the confirmed request separately from later delivery or return events. Explain the requested action as pending until the applicable record confirms the outcome. If a replacement order is approved, preserve its relationship to the original shipment.
Review what caused the address issue and update pre-dispatch checking where needed. Correcting a future order is useful, but keep the original label and events intact for the parcel already in transit.
